Fight

Keyword actions

Two creatures deal damage to each other at once — and it isn't combat.

How it works

When two creatures fight, each deals damage equal to its power to the other, at the same time. Fight is green's main creature removal: point your biggest creature at theirs.

A "bite" (Ram Through, Rabid Bite) is the one-sided cousin — only your creature deals damage. The card's wording tells you which you have, and the difference decides whether your creature survives.

Common confusions

“Do first strike, trample or "combat damage" triggers apply?”

No. Fighting isn't combat damage: the damage is simultaneous so first strike doesn't help, trample has no effect, and "whenever this deals combat damage" doesn't trigger. Deathtouch and lifelink DO work — they care about any damage.

“They gave their creature hexproof in response.”

If either target of a fight spell like Prey Upon is illegal as it resolves, no creature deals or is dealt damage at all. You don't get half a fight.

“My creature died before the fight resolved.”

It's an illegal target (or simply gone), so there is no fight — the other creature isn't dealt any damage.
