Landfall

Keyword abilities

Triggers whenever a land enters under your control — not only when you play one.

How it works

Landfall is an ability word: "Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, ...". It triggers for any land entering under your control for any reason — your land drop, a ramp spell like Cultivate, a fetchland's search, a land returned from the graveyard.

That makes ramp and fetchlands double as landfall enablers. A fetchland is two triggers on its own: one when it enters, another when you crack it and the fetched land enters.

Common confusions

“Does a land from a ramp spell count?”

Yes. Landfall triggers whenever a land enters under your control for any reason, not just when you play it.

“Something became a land — does that trigger it?”

No. A permanent that was already on the battlefield and becomes a land didn't enter, so landfall doesn't trigger.

“Can they respond to Lotus Cobra's mana?”

Yes. It's a triggered ability that uses the stack — not a mana ability — because the land entering isn't a mana ability. That's true even for Omnath's second landfall in a turn.

“I have several landfall cards — what order?”

Every landfall ability you control triggers at once and you put them on the stack in any order you like. The last one you put on resolves first.
